Note: For hole depths > 3×D, reduce Vc by 10% and feed by 15%. For depths > 5×D, apply peck drilling cycle (Q = 1.5×D, R = 0.5×D).

Operating Guidelines

  • Coolant Supply: Minimum 70 bar internal coolant (emulsion 6–8% or neat oil) is mandatory for optimal tool life and hole surface finish.
  • Peck Cycle: For holes > 3×D, use a peck depth of 1.5×D with full retract to break chips. For > 5×D, reduce peck depth to 1.0×D.
  • Entry Surface: Ensure the workpiece surface is flat and perpendicular to the drill axis. For inclined or curved surfaces, use a center drill or spot drill (90°) to create a stable starting point.
  • Tool Overhang: Keep tool overhang to a minimum (L/D ≤ 4 for best results). If longer overhang is unavoidable, reduce cutting parameters by 20%.
  • Spindle Runout: Verify spindle runout is ≤ 0.01 mm at the tool tip. Excessive runout will cause uneven wear and premature chipping.
  • Feed Rate: Do not reduce feed below 0.05 mm/rev, as this can cause rubbing and work-hardening in stainless steels.
  • Re-Sharpening: This tool is not designed for re-sharpening. Discard when flank wear reaches 0.3 mm or when chipping is observed.
