  • Run-out Check: Ensure tool run-out is < 0.01 mm at the tool tip. Excessive run-out reduces tool life and degrades surface finish.
  • Coolant Strategy: BN TA performs excellently with emulsion coolant (6 – 8% concentration) or neat oil. For heat-resistant alloys, consider through-spindle coolant (TSC) at > 70 bar pressure.
  • Chip Evacuation: Maintain adequate air blast or coolant flow to prevent chip re-cutting, especially in deep pocketing and slotting operations.
  • Engagement Rules: When slotting, limit radial engagement (ae) to 0.5 × Dc. For full-slotting, reduce feed rate by 20 – 30%.
  • Speed Ramp: Accelerate spindle gradually over 3 – 5 seconds to avoid thermal shock to the cutting edges.
  • Tool Life Monitoring: Monitor flank wear (VB). Recommended re-sharpening or replacement limit is VB = 0.15 – 0.20 mm for finishing, VB = 0.30 mm for roughing.
