Operating Guidelines

  • Runout Tolerance: Maintain TIR ≤ 0.0004 in (0.010 mm) at tool tip. Excessive runout reduces tool life by 30–50%.
  • Coolant Requirements: Minimum 5% emulsion concentration at 800–1200 psi for through-tool applications. For external flood coolant, ensure 15–20 L/min flow rate directed at the cutting zone.
  • Pre-Drilling: Not required for standard applications. For holes > 0.500 in in materials > 35 HRC, consider a 0.005–0.010 in oversize pilot hole.
  • Peck Cycle: Recommended for holes > 2.5×D. First peck = 1.0×D, subsequent pecks = 0.5×D. Retract to 0.1×D above bottom for chip break.
  • Entry Angle: Use chamfer or countersink (0.010–0.020 in × 90°) to prevent burr formation and guide the drill.
