Chipbreaker Profile
The SGM series features a precision-ground flute geometry optimized for micro-milling chip control:
- Flute Form: Parabolic rake face with positive 8° axial rake and 4° radial rake for sharp cutting action
- Core Design: High core thickness ratio (65%) maximizes rigidity and suppresses chatter during deep slotting
- Margin Width: Narrow 0.05 mm land width reduces friction and heat generation
- Edge Preparation: Micro-honing (0.01 mm radius) prevents chipping while maintaining sharpness
- Chip Pocket: Optimized flute spacing ensures consistent chip evacuation even at high feed rates

Operating Guidelines
- Runout: Maintain TIR <5 μm at the tool tip. Excessive runout will drastically reduce tool life.
- Coolant: Flood coolant or MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) is strongly recommended for steel and stainless steel. For aluminum, air blast or mist is preferred to prevent chip welding.
- Chip Load: Start at the lower end of the recommended fz range and increase gradually while monitoring tool wear and surface finish.
- Depth of Cut: For slotting, do not exceed 1.0 × DC in a single pass. For roughing, use 0.3–0.5 × DC with high feed rates.
- Entry Strategy: Use ramp or helical entry; avoid direct plunge. Maximum ramp angle is 3°.
- Tool Overhang: Minimize overhang to 4×DC or less. For deep machining, use a reduced-diameter neck or trochoidal toolpath.
- Spindle Warm-Up: Allow 10–15 minutes spindle warm-up before precision machining to ensure thermal stability.
