Operating Guidelines


  • Tool Setup: Ensure boring bar center height is exactly on spindle centerline (±0.01 mm). Below-center causes rubbing; above-center increases rake and risk of dig-in.
  • Edge Inspection: Visually inspect insert cutting edge under 20× magnification before installation. In micro-boring, even 0.01 mm edge damage affects surface finish.
  • Bore Preparation: Pre-drill or pre-bore to within 0.3 mm of final size. Leave consistent stock for the VNBR0411-003 to remove in one or two passes.
  • Coolant Strategy: For cast iron and brass, dry machining is preferred. For titanium and stainless, apply high-pressure coolant through the tool if available.
  • Speed Ramping: Start at 60% of recommended Vc for the first 3 bores to verify stability, then increase to 100%.
  • Insert Indexing: In micro-boring, replace insert when surface finish degrades or bore tolerance exceeds 50% of limit — do not wait for visible flank wear.
  • Storage: Store inserts in original packaging. Handle with clean gloves to prevent oil/contamination on the precision ground seating surface.
