Product Overview

The Kyocera SGS 29/64 SGS30059 is a solid-carbide 4-flute, ball nose end mill from the Kyocera SGS precision milling program. The 29/64″ (11.509 mm) cutting diameter with a 0.22656″ (5.755 mm) ball radius makes it the tool of choice for 3D contouring, die & mold finishing, fillet work and surface machining on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles.

The TA (TiAlN) coating provides a hard, heat-resistant surface (≈3,300 HV) that protects the ball tip from abrasive wear, delivering extended tool life and consistent surface finishes in tool steels, stainless alloys and hardened materials.

Operating Guidelines

  • Keep tool-holder runout below 0.0004" (10 µm) TIR — runout destroys ball-tip accuracy.
  • Tilt the spindle/tool 10–15° on flat areas so the low-speed tip center never dwells in the cut.
  • Use the shortest possible gauge length; small-diameter ball tips are fragile under side load.
  • Program constant-chip-load toolpaths with ≤10% stepover for best surface finish.
  • Avoid dwelling at the bottom of a cut; keep the tool moving to prevent tip rubbing.
  • Retire the tool at the first sign of tip wear — worn ball tips ruin surface finish before they break.
