Operating Guidelines

  • Runout Control: Maintain total indicated runout (TIR) below 0.010 mm at the tool tip. Excessive runout will cause uneven flute wear and premature failure.
  • Coolant Strategy: For steel and stainless steel, use high-quality water-soluble emulsion at 8-10% concentration. For aluminum, air blast or MQL is preferred to prevent built-up edge.
  • Entry Strategy: Use helical or ramp entry when possible. Avoid direct 90° plunging into solid material. If plunging is necessary, reduce feed to 30% and use peck cycles.
  • Stepover Recommendation: For finishing, use 5-10% of tool diameter stepover to achieve mirror surface finish (Ra 0.2 – 0.4 μm). For semi-finishing, 20-30% stepover is acceptable.
  • Tool Life Monitoring: Inspect the ball-nose radius after every 30-60 minutes of cutting time. A worn radius will produce visible witness marks on contoured surfaces.
