Product Overview

The Kyocera SGS 1.0 SGS30575 is a solid-carbide 3-flute, square-end end mill from the Kyocera SGS non-ferrous milling program. The 1.0″ (25.4 mm) cutting diameter on a rigid 1" shank is purpose-built for grooving, profiling and pocketing in aluminum and other non-ferrous materials.

The 3-flute layout opens up deeper chip gullets than a 4-flute tool — the preferred geometry for gummy aluminum alloys — while the odd flute count naturally breaks up harmonic chatter. The uncoated, diamond-polished micro-grain carbide edges stay razor-sharp and resist built-up edge.

Chipbreaker Profile

Chip control on this 3-flute tool comes from its flute and gash geometry:

  • Extra-deep polished gullets — fewer flutes means more room per flute, so long aluminum chips evacuate before they pack or re-cut.
  • 30° helix lifts chips smoothly out of the cut while keeping cutting forces low.
  • Odd (3) flute count breaks up harmonic vibration for chatter-free finishes in thin-wall parts.
  • Center-cutting gash allows plunging and ramping entries without a pilot hole.

Starting recommendations for rigid setups; adjust ±20% for machine stiffness and holder runout.

Operating Guidelines

  • Keep tool-holder runout below 0.0004" (10 µm) TIR — runout is the leading cause of premature edge failure.
  • Use the shortest possible gauge length for maximum rigidity.
  • Climb mill whenever machine rigidity allows for better surface finish and tool life.
  • In aluminum, use air blast or mist; avoid heavy flood coolant that thermally shocks the edge.
  • Start at 70–80% of recommended feed and speed, then optimize upward in 10% steps.
  • Retire the tool at the first sign of edge chipping or built-up edge.
