Note: RPM values are calculated for the 2,32 mm diameter. Always start at 70% of recommended values and increase based on machine stability and chip formation.
Operating Guidelines
- Coolant: High-pressure internal coolant (minimum 20 bar) is strongly recommended for holes deeper than 1.5×D. Use water-miscible emulsion (5–8% concentration) or neat oil.
- Peck Cycle: For depths exceeding 2×D, employ a peck drilling cycle with retract to clear chips. Peck depth = 0.3–0.5×D; full retract every 2×D.
- Entry Angle: Ensure the workpiece surface is perpendicular to the drill axis. For angled or curved entry, use a spot drill or center drill first.
- Run-out: Maximum tool run-out must not exceed 0.01 mm at the tool tip. Verify collet/chuck condition before each use.
- Pre-drilling: Not required for this self-centering point geometry on flat surfaces. For cast or forged surfaces, spot-drill to prevent wandering.
- Speed & Feed Ramp: Reduce spindle speed by 20% and feed by 10% for the first 5 holes to break in the cutting edge.
- Chip Inspection: Target short, curled chips (C-shape or 6-shape). Long stringy chips indicate insufficient feed; powdery chips indicate excessive speed.
Toolholder Compatibility
| Holder Type | Min. Collet Size | Run-out Capability | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| ER Precision Collet Chuck | ER16 (Ø2.0–10.0 mm) | ≤ 0.010 mm | Recommended for general use |
| Hydraulic Expansion Chuck | HSK-E32 / HSK-E40 | ≤ 0.003 mm | Best for high-precision finishing |
| Shrink Fit Holder | 3–12 mm range | ≤ 0.003 mm | Excellent for high-speed machining |
| Drill Chuck (Keyless) | 0.5–6.0 mm | ≤ 0.020 mm | Acceptable for manual machines only |
All holders must be balanced to G2.5 or better at maximum operating RPM. Verify clamping torque per manufacturer specification.
