Operating Guidelines

  • Coolant: Use water-miscible coolant at 8-10% concentration minimum. Ensure coolant pressure ≥ 20 bar for optimal chip evacuation through internal coolant channels.
  • Pecking: For 5XD drills, peck depth should be 1.5×D to 2×D per peck in blind holes. Through-holes may use continuous feed with adequate coolant pressure.
  • Entry Surface: Ensure perpendicular entry surface or use a spotting drill (90°-120°) to prevent walk-off and improve positional accuracy.
  • Tool Runout: Maintain total indicated runout (TIR) below 0.01 mm at the tool tip. Excessive runout reduces tool life and hole quality.
  • Chip Control: Monitor chip shape. Acceptable chips are C-shaped or short spirals. Long stringy chips indicate insufficient feed or coolant issues.
